Which level am I?

Beginner

Beginners starts from the top, introducing you to dances from the 1920s, 30s and 40s. We primarily cover Six Count Lindy Hop, Eight Count Lindy Hop and 1930s Charleston, but also include taster classes in other swing dances.

Absolute beginners are welcome - you don't need a partner or any previous experience. Our friendly teachers will break down the footwork before introducing you to some fun moves!

Level 2

This level is all about giving you the confidence to social dance! It is suitable for anyone wanting to learn more about either lead or follow technique, and who feels ready to tackle some more challenging moves, variations and footwork.

You should feel comfortable with the Eight Count, Six Count and 1930s Charleston footwork patterns, as we will build on these. We will also introduce you to some classic solo jazz routines!

Lead or Follow?

Wondering whether to lead or follow? You're welcome to try both!

Leaders typically initiate moves on the social dance floor while follows interpret and respond.

Many of us enjoy dancing both roles with different opportunities to be creative, and of course the chance to dance with everyone else in the room!

Your dancing role is completely your choice and leading/following is not restricted to gender.

Dancing both roles allows for fun with taking turns and switching whether you lead or follow- sometimes even mid-dance!

We only ask that you stick with one role for the duration of a particular course.

Please purchase our ticket before attending; we are not currently able to accept payment on the door.

No partner required.

We are currently running three week courses as well as one-off taster classes once a month.

No special clothes or footwear required, just come along in comfy clothes and flat shoes.

We look forward to meeting you soon!

Cancellations and refunds

Once you buy a ticket for our event, we hope that you'll join us to make the most of your purchase, and to support us in running York Lindy sustainably so we can continue to organise swing dancing events. However, we understand that sometimes plans change.

Where possible, we will aim to refund dancers in the fairest way possible at our discretion. You can help us, and your fellow dancers who might like a ticket, by letting us know via contact@yorklindy.co.uk as soon as you’re aware you won’t be able to attend an event.

We have limited capacity at our events and try to make sure the lead and follow ratio is balanced.  We also lose the value of your payment fee when you cancel. Therefore, our refund process is as follows:

Courses:

One-off events:

In both cases:

Thanks for understanding. We are a friendly and approachable group, so please contact us at contact@yorklindy.co.uk and we’ll be happy to help.
